Thursday’s Underperformers: Healthcare and Industrial Sectors

As of midday Thursday, the healthcare sector is underperforming, showing a 0.1% loss. Notable declines include West Pharmaceutical Services, Inc. (WST), which has lost 36.5%, and Zoetis Inc (ZTS), which is down 6.8%. Year-to-date, WST has declined 37.43%, while ZTS is down 0.24%. Together, these companies represent approximately 1.6% of the Health Care Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLV), which is up 0.2% today and 6.20% year-to-date.

The industrial sector also struggled, with Delta Air Lines Inc (DAL) declining 4.6% and Global Payments Inc (GPN) down 4.3%. DAL is performing better year-to-date with a gain of 4.63%, whereas GPN is down 7.08%. The Industrial Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLI) eked out a 0.1% gain today and is up 4.62% year-to-date.

Overall, while seven sectors are up on the day, healthcare and industrials are notably lagging behind. Key sectors showing gains include Services (+1.1%) and Materials (+1.0%).
