Amazon Reports Strong Growth and Investment Plans

Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) posted total sales of $201 billion for the latest quarter, representing 20% growth year-over-year, while its operating income surged by 43%. The company’s cloud division, Amazon Web Services (AWS), saw revenue increase by 37%, adding $4.6 billion in the first quarter alone. Amazon also has a significant backlog of $496 billion, an increase of over 100% from the previous year.

Billionaire investor Bill Ackman, through Pershing Square Capital Management, highlights that Amazon’s retail business could nearly double in profitability. With a capital expenditure target raised from $200 billion to $220 billion for the year, Amazon’s CEO Andy Jassy maintains a positive long-term outlook, emphasizing the need for strategic investments to meet growing demand.

The company’s current price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio stands at 22, whilee its stock is seen as undervalued compared to competitors. Adding to its strategic advantages is a leading position in logistics, fulfilling over $700 billion in gross merchandise value annually.
