The 2023 International Booker Prize-winning novel, Time Shelter, by Bulgarian author Georgi Gospodinov, explores nostalgia through a psychiatrist creating a clinic for Alzheimer’s patients that recreates past decades. As the concept catches on, entire nations hold referendums to determine which decade to return to, with studies indicating the 1940s was the best era for upward economic mobility for those born into the bottom 25% of wealth in America.
According to research from the National Bureau of Economics, 90% of children born in the 1940s outpaced their parents’ earnings in real terms, contrasting sharply with only 50% for those born in the 1980s. Currently, the U.S. government has initiated substantial investments, including the $2.2 trillion Build Back Better Act and the $280 billion CHIPS Act, aiming for a revival of the American Dream through a projected $11.3 trillion investment plan.
This resurgence focuses on revamping manufacturing and infrastructure, with emphasis noted from analysts like Louis Navellier, Eric Fry, and Luke Lango, who highlight the societal divide between the affluent and poor, reflecting on current economic challenges and the nostalgia felt by younger generations.
