Transocean (RIG) Reports Q1 Loss, Misses Revenue Estimates

Transocean (RIG) came out with a quarterly loss of $0.03 per share versus the Zacks Consensus Estimate of a loss of $0.13. This compares to loss of $0.38 per share a year ago. These figures are adjusted for non-recurring items.

This quarterly report represents an earnings surprise of 76.92%. A quarter ago, it was expected that this offshore oil and gas drilling contractor would post a loss of $0.22 per share when it actually produced a loss of $0.09, delivering a surprise of 59.09%.

Over the last four quarters, the company has surpassed consensus EPS estimates two times.

Transocean, which belongs to the Zacks Oil and Gas – Drilling industry, posted revenues of $767 million for the quarter ended March 2024, missing the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 1.50%. This compares to year-ago revenues of $649 million. The company has topped consensus revenue estimates just once over the last four quarters.

The sustainability of the stock’s immediate price movement based on the recently-released numbers and future earnings expectations will mostly depend on management’s commentary on the earnings call.

This provider of drilling services for oil and natural gas producers is expected to post quarterly loss of $0.73 per share in its upcoming report, which represents a year-over-year change of -621.4%. The consensus EPS estimate for the quarter has remained unchanged over the last 30 days.

Independent Contract Drilling’s revenues are expected to be $41.64 million, down 34.7% from the year-ago quarter.
