Energy Stocks Lead Gains Despite Mixed Market Conditions
During afternoon trading on Tuesday, the Energy sector stood out as the best performer, rising by 0.3%. Key players Targa Resources Corp (Symbol: TRGP) and EOG Resources, Inc. (Symbol: EOG) contributed significantly to this increase, with gains of 1.4% and 1.0%, respectively. The Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF (Symbol: XLE), which tracks the sector, also saw a daily increase of 0.3% and boasts a 15.73% rise year-to-date. To put this in perspective, Targa Resources Corp is up 130.16% since the beginning of the year, while EOG Resources, Inc. has appreciated by 12.57%. Combined, these two stocks represent about 4.9% of the holdings in XLE.
Utilities Also Show Modest Gains
The Utilities sector follows closely behind, gaining 0.1%. Among significant Utility stocks, PG&E Corp (Symbol: PCG) and AES Corp (Symbol: AES) both reported gains of 1.8%. The Utilities Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLU), which closely tracks Utilities stocks, remained unchanged on the day and is up 30.69% year-to-date. In contrast, PG&E Corp has seen a 16.22% increase, while AES Corp has fallen by 27.57% since January. Together, PG&E Corp and AES Corp account for approximately 3.8% of the XLU’s holdings.
