SSR Mining (NASDAQ:SSRM) revealed on Sunday that the Turkish government has rescinded the environmental permit for the Copler gold mine, with the mine remaining suspended until further notice following a recent landslide that left nine workers missing.

The company indicated that several staff members are facing charges related to the incident, which Turkey’s Interior Minister described as dislodging 10M cubic meters of earth across a 200-meter slope.

Tests conducted by the Turkish Ministry of the Environment on the surface water, groundwater, and soil in the region did not reveal any contamination in the area’s waters, according to the company.

SSR Mining (SSRM) had projected an output of up to 220,000 ounces of gold at Copler this year, representing about half of the company’s expected global production; SSR owns an 80% stake in the mine.
