Uber Technologies (NYSE:UBER) has decided to close its alcohol delivery service, Drizly, after acquiring the company for $1.1 billion three years ago.
“After three years of Drizly operating independently within the Uber family, we’ve decided to close the business and focus on our core Uber Eats strategy of helping consumers get almost anything — from food to groceries to alcohol — all on a single app,” explained Pierre-Dimitri Gore-Coty, Uber’s SVP of delivery, in an interview with Axios.
Uber (UBER) agreed to acquire Drizly in a $1.1B cash and stock deal in February 2021.
Notably, last January, the Federal Trade Commission finalized an order with online alcohol marketplace Drizly and its CEO over security failures, alleging a data breach that exposed the personal information of about 2.5 million consumers.
