AI startup Anthropic is projected to delay its initial public offering (IPO) until November 2023, as reported by The Wall Street Journal. Advisors have recommended this timeline to align the offering with the release of its third-quarter financials, showcasing its competitive standing in the AI sector.
In 2023, Amazon invested $8 billion in Anthropic, with plans for an additional investment of up to $20 billion by 2026. Anthropic committed to spending up to $100 billion over the next decade on Amazon Web Services to enhance its AI model, Claude.
As of May 2023, Anthropic was valued at $965 billion, significantly lower than Amazon’s valuation of $2.7 trillion. Amazon’s established position in the market allows it to derive financial benefit from Anthropic’s success without relying entirely on it.
