Tesla’s Recent Performance and Future Outlook

Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) experienced a significant stock decline following its second-quarter earnings report, largely due to rising costs associated with raw materials, financing, and increased R&D for its robotaxi and Optimus projects. The company has pushed out revenue expectations for its robotaxi rollout, with CEO Elon Musk indicating a more cautious timeline than previously anticipated. During the earnings call, management mentioned the need for software improvements before scaling operations.

Tesla’s Vice President of AI, Ashok Elluswamy, revealed that the current robotaxi fleet is testing early versions of its upcoming full self-driving (FSD) software, v15. The fleet has already logged 380,000 miles without significant incidents, and improvements for v15 are actively being developed. Musk projects the full rollout will not occur until late 2026 or early 2027, affecting investor expectations for an immediate large-scale implementation.
