Nissan Partners with Wayve to Accelerate Autonomous Driving
Nissan Motor has announced a partnership with British software developer Wayve Technologies to enhance its ProPilot autonomous driving system. The collaboration aims to integrate Wayve’s AI platform, which relies primarily on video cameras, into Nissan’s technology. This move marks Nissan’s aggressive strategy to enter the autonomous driving market, targeting a price point of under $4,000, significantly lower than Tesla’s current $8,000 fee for Full Self-Driving (FSD) access.
The next-generation ProPilot system is projected for launch in early 2028. Despite its ambitions, Nissan faces challenges, including declining sales and intensified competition. CEO Ivan Espinosa has acknowledged the pressing need for the company to stabilize its core business amidst looming rivalries in the EV and autonomous segments.
