The First Trust Nasdaq Oil & Gas ETF (FTXN) experienced unusually high trading volume on Friday, with over 534,000 shares exchanged, significantly exceeding its three-month average of approximately 67,000 shares. As of Friday, FTXN shares declined by about 5%.
Key components of the ETF included Venture Global, which dropped approximately 10.2% with over 20.3 million shares traded, and Transocean, down about 7.3% on volume exceeding 18.6 million shares. Weatherford International was the only component to show gains, increasing by about 2.4%, while SM Energy fell by approximately 10.4%.
