Wheat Markets Experience Declines Ahead of Holiday Trading
Weakness in wheat prices was evident across key exchanges on Tuesday, just before Christmas. Chicago SRW futures dropped between 3 ¾ and 5 ¾ cents. Similarly, KC HRW contracts saw a decline of 6 ¼ to 7 ¼ cents, while MPLS spring wheat futures fell by 5 to 6 cents. The markets will reopen hard at 8:30 am CST today.
Weather Forecast: Rain for Some, Dry for Others
Precipitation is expected to reach the eastern parts of the Plains this coming week, while the western half is likely to remain dry. Areas within the SRW regions are predicted to receive between 1 to 2 inches of rain.
International Trade Updates: Algeria Increases Wheat Purchases
In related news, Algeria purchased 630,000 MT of wheat through a tender on Tuesday. Additionally, Russian agricultural analyst IKAR forecasts that the country’s wheat exports for the 2025/26 season will decline to 41 MMT, anticipating a decrease in market share from 25% to 20%.

- May 25 KCBT Wheat closed at $5.51 3/4, down 7 1/4 cents.
- Mar 25 MGEX Wheat closed at $5.89 1/2, down 6 cents.
- May 25 MGEX Wheat closed at $5.97 3/4, down 5 3/4 cents.
