The Federal Open Market Committee’s (FOMC) meeting minutes will be released next week, coinciding with a market closure on Monday for Presidents’ Day. Traders will keep a close eye on consumer sentiment data alongside the manufacturing and services purchasing managers’ index (PMI) readings for February.

Earnings Season Continues with Major Players

Several notable companies are set to report earnings, including Alibaba (BABA), Bumble (BMBL), Carvana (CVNA), CF Industries (CF), Chemours (CC), Dropbox (DBX), Etsy (ETSY), Hasbro (HAS), Live Nation Entertainment (LYV), Newmont (NEM), Shake Shack (SHAK), Toast (TOST), Toll Brothers (TOL), and Walmart (WMT).

Key Economic Events on the Horizon

The following are important market events scheduled for the week ahead. Note that all dates are tentative and may change.

Markets will be closed on Monday, Feb. 17, for Presidents’ Day, but Philadelphia Fed President Patrick Harker is expected to speak.

Tuesday, Feb. 18 will bring the Empire State manufacturing survey and the home builder confidence index, along with remarks from San Francisco Fed President Mary Daly.

On Wednesday, Feb. 19, housing starts, building permits, and the FOMC meeting minutes will be released.

Thursday, Feb. 20 will see the release of weekly jobless claims, the Philadelphia Fed manufacturing survey, and leading economic indicators.

The week concludes with S&P flash services and manufacturing PMI readings on Friday, Feb. 21, along with consumer sentiment and existing home sales data.
