United Parcel Service (UPS) has resolved outstanding grievances and a local contract dispute, averting a strike at its global air sortation hub in Louisville, KY, and package terminals in six other states. The Teamsters union, representing thousands of workers at UPS, called off the strike following this resolution.
Despite the agreement, tensions between the Teamsters and UPS persist. The union alleges ongoing violations of the National Master Agreement, including UPS’s failure to hire the promised 22,500 new full-time employees and to roll out at least 28,000 air-conditioned vehicles as stipulated in the contract. Currently, less than 10% of the required new fleet has been deployed.
UPS is also undergoing a restructuring to align with reduced parcel volumes after agreeing to lower its business with Amazon by over 50% by June 2026. The company’s shares have dropped by over 31% in the past year, underperforming compared to industry standards.
