USA Rare Earth, Inc. (USAR) has been awarded up to $19.3 million in funding from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to enhance rare earth element (REE) processing capacities in the U.S. The initiative aims to establish a pilot-scale facility for REE separation, with a total project cost projected at approximately $50.5 million. Financing will also include contributions from non-government sources.

This project is part of a broader effort to bolster domestic production of rare earth elements, crucial for industries like clean energy, defense, and advanced manufacturing. The U.S. has been increasingly reliant on overseas sources for these materials, and improving local processing capabilities is expected to enhance supply-chain security.

USA Rare Earth’s funding selection underscores the growing commitment to strengthen the domestic REE market; the project aims to reduce dependence on foreign supply chains essential for technology and national security needs.
