HII christened the USS Jeremiah Denton (DDG 129) on June 28, 2025, at its Ingalls Shipbuilding division in Pascagoula, Mississippi. This destroyer, the third Flight III Arleigh Burke-class, is named after former U.S. Senator and Vietnam veteran Jeremiah Denton Jr., who is known for signaling “torture” in Morse code during his captivity as a prisoner of war.
TheUSS Jeremiah Denton will incorporate advanced technologies like the AN/SPY-6(V)1 Air and Missile Defense Radar and the Aegis Baseline 10 Combat System. HII has delivered 35 Arleigh Burke-class destroyers to the U.S. Navy, with five Flight IIIs currently under construction. The christening ceremony saw Denton’s daughters carry out the traditional bottle-breaking ritual.
