Key Facts on Amazon and Walmart
Amazon has surpassed Walmart to become the world’s most valuable company by revenue, recording $716.9 billion in sales compared to Walmart’s $713.2 billion for its 2026 fiscal year ending January 30. This marks the first time Amazon has overtaken Walmart in overall revenue.
While Amazon benefits significantly from its diverse business units, including Amazon Web Services and digital advertising, Walmart remains a dominant player in retail, with its digital advertising revenue growing 46% to reach $6.4 billion last year. Walmart’s stock has increased approximately 32% over the past year, trading at about 45 times expected earnings.
Walmart’s revenue grew by roughly 5% on a currency-adjusted basis last year, with adjusted operating income rising 10.8%. Despite strong foundations and initiatives in automation and supply chain efficiency, Walmart’s current valuation may deter some investors as it commands a substantial premium in the market.
