Buffett’s Quantum Computing Investments

Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway has invested approximately $7.7 billion in two major players in quantum computing: Amazon and Alphabet. Berkshire initiated its position in Amazon in 2019, while it acquired over 17.8 million shares of Alphabet in 2025. Both companies have significant stakes in quantum computing, primarily through Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Google Quantum AI.

Amazon’s AWS offers Amazon Braket for quantum computing algorithm testing, while Alphabet’s Google Quantum AI has made notable advancements, including a calculation reportedly completed in just 200 seconds that would take supercomputers 10,000 years. Despite these investments, Buffett’s primary interest in these companies stems from their dominance in e-commerce, cloud computing, and advertising, rather than purely their quantum computing capabilities.
