Berkshire Hathaway’s Recent Moves
Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE: BRK.A, NYSE: BRK.B) has exited its positions in two major S&P 500 funds, the Vanguard S&P 500 ETF (NYSEMKT: VOO) and the SPDR S&P 500 ETF (NYSEMKT: SPY), during the fourth quarter of 2024. This decision reflects a broader strategy where the company has sold approximately $184 billion in stocks since late 2022, leading to a record cash reserve of $382 billion as of the end of Q3 2023.
Amid ongoing market gains, Berkshire has been cautious, investing only modestly in firms like UnitedHealth Group and Alphabet, which together account for less than 2% of its portfolio. Buffett’s recent actions suggest he views current market valuations as unsustainable, favoring liquidity for future investment opportunities.
