On June 29, 2025, Singapore’s Acting Minister for Transport, Mr. Jeffrey Siow, announced plans to deploy autonomous vehicles (AVs) in public housing estates by late 2025, starting in Punggol. This initiative aims to enhance public transport and address workforce challenges amidst an aging population and labor shortages. The announcement was made during a visit to WeRide’s headquarters in Guangzhou, where Minister Siow led a delegation from Singapore’s Ministry of Transport to discuss cooperative advancements in autonomous mobility.

The deployment of AVs, including WeRide’s Robobus and Robotaxi, will integrate into Singapore’s public transport system, expanding later to areas like Tengah. This collaboration signifies Singapore’s commitment to leveraging autonomous technology to improve its transport infrastructure and service efficiency.

WeRide, a leading provider of autonomous driving solutions, is actively working to enhance partnerships with local stakeholders, having already initiated various services in Singapore since 2024. This includes the operation of a Robobus at Resorts World Sentosa and the launch of Robosweeper for autonomous sanitation, marking significant steps in public transport innovation.
