Weyerhaeuser Prepares for Q1 2025 Earnings Announcement

With a market cap of $19.3 billion, Weyerhaeuser Company (WY), headquartered in Seattle, Washington, stands as one of the largest private timberland owners globally. The company oversees 11 million acres of timberland in the United States, alongside additional holdings in Canada. Weyerhaeuser is a prominent player in the forest products sector and a real estate investment trust (REIT), committed to sustainably managing timberland, manufacturing wood products, and constructing homes. Its operational footprint spans regions including Southern California, Nevada, Washington, Texas, Maryland, and Virginia.

Upcoming Earnings Report and Analyst Expectations

WY is set to report its fiscal Q1 2025 earnings on Thursday, April 24, after market hours. Analysts predict the company will post an EPS of $0.13 per share, reflecting an 18.8% decrease from $0.16 in the same quarter last year. Weyerhaeuser has exceeded Wall Street’s earnings expectations in three of the past four quarters, with a notable 57.1% EPS beat in Q4 2024.

Weyerhaeuser’s Stock Performance

Over the past 52 weeks, Weyerhaeuser’s stock has declined by 23.2%, underperforming the broader S&P 500 Index’s ($SPX) 2.1% gain and the Real Estate Select Sector SPDR Fund’s (XLRE) 2.1% rise.

Even after Weyerhaeuser reported a better-than-expected net income of $0.11 per share for Q4 2024, its stock fell by 1.1% the following day. This decline was attributed to concerns regarding increased forestry and road costs within its timberlands unit, exacerbated by wet weather conditions. Despite revenue for the quarter reaching $1.7 billion, it fell short of Wall Street’s expectations, and adjusted core profits from the timberlands segment saw a nearly 12% decline. This suggests ongoing operational challenges, even as higher log sale projections for early 2025 persist.

Analyst Sentiment and Price Targets

The consensus among analysts regarding Weyerhaeuser’s stock is positive, reflected in a “Strong Buy” rating overall. Among the 12 analysts covering the stock, eight recommend a “Strong Buy,” while two advise a “Moderate Buy,” and two suggest a “Hold.” Currently, WY is trading beneath the average analyst price target of $35.55.
