Wheat Market Struggles Amid Weaker Export Sales
The wheat market faced challenges on Friday, experiencing notable losses as the latest export sales data fell short of expectations. At midday, Chicago SRW futures were down by 11 to 12 cents, while KC HRW futures dropped by 14 to 15 cents. MPLS spring wheat also saw declines of 10 to 11 cents.
Export Sales Report Shows Disappointing Numbers
This morning’s Export Sales report revealed that only 164,837 MT in wheat were sold for the week ending January 16. This figure was significantly below the predicted range of 200,000 to 600,000 MT and marked less than a third of sales from the previous week. Among the buyers, Mexico purchased 57,500 NT, and Japan acquired 49,200 MT. For the 2025/26 marketing year, sales surpassed expectations, coming in at 50,500 MT compared to the forecast of 0-50,000 MT. The Philippines also featured in the sales, buying 33,000 MT, along with 14,000 MT sold to Japan.
