Wheat Prices Surge on Monday

The wheat market experienced midday gains on Monday, with Chicago SRW futures rising by 12 to 13 cents, and KC HRW futures up 6 to 9.25 cents. Export inspections data revealed that 365,156 metric tons (13.42 million bushels) of wheat were shipped in the week ending April 23, a decrease of 29.53% from the previous week and 43.84% from the same period last year. The Philippines was the largest importer at 84,898 metric tons, followed by Japan at 84,134 metric tons and South Korea at 54,999 metric tons.

Analysts anticipate a slight decline in US winter wheat crop ratings to 29% good/excellent, while spring wheat planting is expected to reach 24% as of Sunday. Additionally, managed money added 3,451 contracts to their net short position in CBT wheat futures, bringing the total to 10,717 contracts as of April 21.

Saudi Arabia recently purchased 985,000 metric tons of wheat through a tender, reflecting ongoing international demand. Current market prices include May 26 CBOT Wheat at $6.21, up 12.75 cents, and July 26 KCBT Wheat at $6.76.25, up 6.5 cents.
