Apple is pivoting its AI strategy by integrating Google Gemini into Siri, marking a significant move to enhance its virtual assistant capabilities. While major tech companies like Meta, Microsoft, Alphabet, and Amazon are projected to spend around $650 billion on AI in 2025, Apple spent less than $13 billion on capital expenditures in fiscal 2025. The new AI-enhanced Siri is expected to launch later this year, with Apple reportedly paying Alphabet an estimated $1 billion annually for the integration.
In the first quarter, Apple reported a 16% increase in sales, reaching nearly $144 billion, and a 19% rise in earnings per share to $2.84, primarily driven by strong demand for the iPhone 17 and a 14% growth in service revenue to $30 billion. As a long-term player in the industry, Apple appears focused on selling high-margin devices while leveraging external AI capabilities rather than developing its own extensive AI systems. Time will reveal the effectiveness of this strategy amid rising competition in the AI space.
