Why SpaceX Might Follow Alphabet into the Dow Jones Industrial Average: Three Unexpected Reasons

On June 23, S&P Dow Jones Indices announced that **Alphabet** would replace **Verizon Communications** in the **Dow Jones Industrial Average**. This move reflects the index’s modernization, as it has seen seven components change since 2020, including additions like **Honeywell International**, **Salesforce**, and **Amazon**, while removing companies such as **ExxonMobil** and **Walgreens Boots Alliance**.

**Space Exploration Technologies** (SpaceX), recently made public, is considered a potential future addition to the Dow. It currently leads the commercial space launch industry, conducting **82% of U.S. space launches**. Although SpaceX has a substantial market cap, being one of only seven companies exceeding **$2 trillion**, it must demonstrate consistent profitability before gaining Dow inclusion. Notably, a merger with **Tesla** could accelerate this path, combining their significant market capitalization and expertise.
