Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN), which has seen growth of over 233,000% since its IPO, is shifting focus towards cloud services. AWS, its cloud solutions segment, grew 17% in Q1 2025 and accounted for 63% of Amazon’s operating income. However, CEO Andy Jassy noted that a significant portion of IT spending remains on-premises, with a projected transition to cloud over the next 10 to 20 years.
In response to increased client interest in cloud capabilities, especially with the rise of generative AI, Amazon is committing more than $100 billion to bolster its AI business in 2025. This strategy positions the company favorably as it anticipates serving a larger share of IT expenditures that are expected to shift to cloud solutions.
