Will Amazon’s Logistics Expansion Accelerate Growth for Online Retailers?

Amazon (AMZN) set new delivery speed records for Prime members in Q1 2025, delivering more items the same or next day than in any other quarter. The company plans to expand Same-Day and Next-Day Delivery to over 4,000 smaller cities and rural communities in the U.S. by the end of 2025, investing over $4 billion to triple its delivery network by 2026, particularly in less populated areas.

As of June 2025, the number of items delivered the same or next day in the U.S. increased by over 30% year over year. Amazon’s Online Stores segment generated $57.4 billion in revenues during Q1 2025, a 5% increase year over year, accounting for 36.9% of its total quarterly revenues. Estimates project Online Stores’ revenues to reach $263.8 billion for the year, marking a 6.8% growth.

Despite these gains, Amazon faces stiff competition from firms like Target (TGT) and Walmart (WMT) in the e-commerce logistics space. YTD, AMZN shares have declined 3.3%, underperforming the Zacks Internet – Commerce industry growth of 4%.
