Ford is set to launch an affordable electric truck named “Fathom” in 2027, starting at $28,350, a significant focus on affordability compared to its previous model, the F-150 Lightning, which struggled due to high costs and limited profitability. Built on the Universal Electric Vehicle (UEV) platform, the Fathom aims to stay under the $30,000 mark while offering advanced features like a large touchscreen, bidirectional charging, and BlueCruise compatibility.
Pre-orders for the Fathom are expected to begin in early 2027, with deliveries slated for later that year. Ford’s previous electric model, the F-150 Lightning, was discontinued after incurring $19.5 billion in EV-related write-downs, highlighting the company’s shift towards a more efficient and profitable EV strategy focused on midsize trucks rather than premium offerings.
