Meta Platforms Explores New Revenue Stream Through AI Capacity Rental

Meta Platforms, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, which collectively engage 3.5 billion users daily, is considering renting out excess computing capacity to other AI developers. This strategy mirrors recent moves by SpaceX, which has reportedly secured billions in monthly revenue from similar arrangements.

The company generated a record $56.3 billion in revenue during Q1 2026, reflecting a 33% year-over-year increase, driven in part by enhanced user engagement through AI-powered content recommendations. To support its ambitious AI infrastructure, Meta’s capital expenditures are projected to rise from $72 billion in 2025 to $145 billion in 2026, indicating a significant investment in its Llama AI models.
