Xpeng (NYSE:XPEV) investors were taken aback as the company unveiled its grand plan to expand its operations to five new countries.

Xpeng’s expansion will incorporate UAE, Egypt, Azerbaijan, Jordan, and Lebanon, a move fueled by a strategic partnership with UAE-based Ali&Sons. The grand entrance will flaunt the G6 and G9 SUV models along with its iconic P7 sedan.

Adding to the thrill, Xpeng is set to augment its footprint in Europe by introducing its EVs in Italy. This trajectory follows the company’s prior announcements of setting foot in Germany, Britain, and France.

In a statement to Electrek, Alex Tang, General Manager of International Markets at Xpeng, highlighted the significance of this expansion:

“The new markets we are announcing today are recognized globally as the nucleus for EV growth, which makes this the natural and forward-thinking next step in our expansion into the EMEA market. At XPENG, our ambition is to become a leading player in the smart EV sector. We are committed not only to developing products that address local customer needs but also to bringing leading technologies and high quality to global customers.”

Xpeng’s Stock Reactivity on Friday

XPEV stock witnessed a slight dip amidst the euphoria of its expansion endeavors. Approximately 4.1 million shares were exchanged, albeit lower than the company’s average daily trading volume of around 11.6 million shares.

The downturn in XPEV stock is less of a reflection on the company’s performance and more of a symptom of the wider EV sector’s malaise. The EV market is experiencing a downturn today, with many industry peers facing analyst downgrades. The full scope of this market movement can be explored through various news outlets.
