YieldMax Unveils ‘Ultra’ Covered Call ETF

YieldMax Introduces Ultra Option Income Strategy ETF

Investors welcomed the newest addition to YieldMax’s ETF lineup as the YieldMax Ultra Option Income Strategy ETF (NYSE Arca: ULTY) was launched on Thursday. With an emphasis on current income, the fund utilizes a mix of traditional and synthetic covered call strategies to harness heightened volatility within U.S. securities.

The Strategy Behind the Fund

Operating with a net expense ratio of 1.14% after a waiver, ULTY focuses on direct exposure to U.S. securities and implements option strategies to boost returns. By taking advantage of increased volatility, the fund aims to capitalize on higher options premiums, as outlined in the prospectus.

Portfolio Composition and Approach

While predominantly comprising U.S.-listed equity securities, ULTY has the flexibility to include other ETFs, closed-end funds, and commodity pools in its portfolio. Additionally, U.S. Treasury securities are held by the fund for collateral purposes and to enhance income generation.

The fund’s managers curate a selection of 15-30 equity securities based on implied volatility levels, leveraging covered call strategies to secure monthly cash distributions from options.

Market Outlook and Industry Trends

“Overall, we expect options-based strategies to continue gaining traction in 2024 as education spreads. These products simplify complex high-income-generating investment methods, making them easily accessible through a single ticker,” commented Todd Rosenbluth, Head of Research at VettaFi.

Expanding ETF Offerings

YieldMax’s venture into the Ultra Option Income Strategy ETF space comes on the heels of a robust portfolio of 22 options strategy ETFs, collectively managing approximately $2 billion in assets.
