Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro May Feature Exciting Wireless Charging Capability

Overview: Apple Inc. AAPL is reportedly working on a wireless reverse charging feature for its next-generation iPhone 17 Pro models, which would allow the device to charge other gadgets.

Details from the Leaker: According to a Chinese leaker known as Instant Digital, Apple is testing a 7.5W wireless charging capability, as reported by MacRumors. This feature could enable users to charge accessories like AirPods, Apple Watch, and a new MagSafe Battery Pack.

However, there is no confirmation yet on whether this technology will be ready in time for the official launch of the iPhone 17 Pro.

Background on Reverse Charging: The idea of reverse wireless charging for iPhones first appeared in 2021, linked to the MagSafe Battery Pack created for the iPhone 12 and more recent models. Yet, Apple discontinued this product in September 2023, aligning with the company’s transition from the Lightning connector to USB-C in the new iPhone 15 lineup.

Presently, existing iPhone models can reverse charge devices like the Apple Watch and AirPods up to 4.5 watts through USB-C. Unfortunately, wireless reverse charging has not been available since the MagSafe Battery Pack was phased out.

Apple is set to announce the iPhone 17 lineup around mid-September. In a related note, Apple recently launched the iPhone 16e, a budget-friendly model sporting the A18 chip and Apple Intelligence, with an asking price of $599.

Financially, Apple reported a remarkable first-quarter revenue of $124.3 billion, surpassing analysts’ expectations of $124.13 billion. Of that, revenue from iPhones accounted for $69.14 billion.
