Live cattle futures fell between $3 and $4.55 as of Tuesday midday, with cash trade yet to commence this week. Last week’s prices were reported at $235 in Texas and $233-238 in Kansas, with northern trades at $380 dressed and $240-242 for live trade in Nebraska. Feeder cattle futures also dropped significantly, with losses ranging from $4.90 to $5.35.
The National Wholesale Boxed Beef prices increased, with Choice boxes up $3.07 to $385.18 and Select boxes rising $2.79 to $370.26 per cwt. The USDA reported a federally inspected cattle slaughter of 103,000 head for Monday, marking a decrease of 9,000 head from the previous week and 12,735 head from the same week last year.
