Ford Motor Company’s Quality Ratings
Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F) received a score of 193 problems per 100 vehicles (PP100) in J.D. Power’s 2025 Initial Quality Study, falling just below the industry average. This marks a decline from last year’s score of 178 PP100, and a significant drop from 174 PP100 in 2020. The study assessed over 90,000 customers of new vehicle models surveyed after 90 days of ownership. Notably, Lexus topped the overall rankings with a score of 166 PP100.
As the auto industry faces increasing complexity in vehicle technology, common issues reported include infotainment system malfunctions and poorly sized cupholders. Despite the decline in Ford’s score, these initial quality ratings do not directly correlate with impending recalls or warranty costs, as they reflect early problems rather than long-term quality. Ford maintains that ongoing improvements will take time to manifest as newer models replace older ones in the market.
