On Friday, March NY world sugar #11 (SBH26) closed at $16.22, up by $0.07 (+0.431%), while December London ICE white sugar #5 (SWZ25) reached $452.90, down by $1.20 (-0.26%). This mixed performance is attributed to a report from Unica indicating a decline in Brazil’s Center-South sugarcane crush sugar content, which fell to 154.58 kg/ton in the first half of September compared to 160.07 kg/ton a year earlier.

In the latest projections, Brazil’s sugar output rose by +15.7% year-over-year to 3.622 million tons in the first half of September. Cumulative sugar production in Brazil for 2025-26 through mid-September was reported at 30.388 million tons, down -0.1% year-over-year.

Additionally, India’s sugar production for 2025/26 is projected to climb by +19% to 34.9 million tons due to increased cane acreage, while the USDA expects global sugar production to reach a record 189.318 million tons, with global consumption at 177.921 million tons, marking the sixth consecutive year of sugar deficits.
