On Friday, lean hog futures recorded midday gains of 35 to 65 cents. The USDA reported a national base hog price of $98.74, down $1.03 from the previous day. Additionally, the CME Lean Hog Index decreased by 56 cents to $103.70 as of October 1.
The USDA’s Friday morning pork cutout report indicated an increase of $2.05, bringing the price to $109.40 per cwt. For the week, federally inspected hog slaughter reached 1.939 million head, which is 5,000 head above last week but 3,558 head below the same week last year.
