Smackover Lithium, a joint venture between Standard Lithium and Norway’s Equinor, announced the first inferred resource for its Franklin project in East Texas. The Smackover Formation is estimated to contain over 4 million tonnes of lithium, sufficient for millions of electric vehicles.
The resource report indicates 2.16 million tonnes of lithium carbonate equivalent and the highest lithium-in-brine concentration in North America at 806 mg/L from the Pine Forest 1 well. The project has leased over 46,000 acres within an 80,000-acre area to support these findings.
Standard Lithium aims to produce over 100,000 tonnes of lithium chemicals annually in Texas and is also pursuing additional projects that would triple their portfolio size in the state. Recently, Standard Lithium received a $225 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy to support a facility in Arkansas.
