Amazon’s $25 Billion Investment in Anthropic
Amazon announced on October 2, 2023, that it plans to invest up to $25 billion in AI start-up Anthropic. This investment includes an initial $5 billion, with an additional $20 billion linked to commercial milestones. In exchange, Anthropic will commit to spending over $100 billion on Amazon Web Services (AWS) over the next decade.
The partnership aims to secure up to 5 gigawatts of compute capacity for Anthropic’s AI models and aligns with AWS’s accelerating growth, which saw revenues reach $35.6 billion in Q4 2025, marking a 24% year-over-year increase. Amazon is expected to allocate about $200 billion for capital expenditures in 2023, primarily for AI infrastructure and data centers.
Amazon CEO Andy Jassy highlighted the importance of Anthropic’s commitment to using AWS’s Trainium chips for its large language models, further solidifying Amazon’s role in AI infrastructure and technology development.
