Ferrari Launches First All-Electric Vehicle
Ferrari has unveiled its first full-electric vehicle, named Luce. The debut comes at a time when other luxury car manufacturers, like Lamborghini, are pulling back on their electric plans, citing low demand for electric supercars. Ferrari aims for the Luce to contribute to approximately 20% of its sales, down from an initial estimate of 40%. The company has been cautious due to concerns over maintaining the driving experience that has defined its brand.
The Luce is set to hit the market as Ferrari faces uncertainty; analysts question whether the demand for expensive electric supercars will materialize. The company typically sells around 14,000 vehicles annually and will need to sell between 500 and 1,000 Luce models each year to consider the launch successful. Additionally, the brand’s EBITDA margins are near 40%, reflecting its strong pricing power and exclusive market presence.
As of now, investor sentiment appears mixed, with Ferrari’s stock experiencing a roughly 6% decline post-unveiling. Analysts like RBC’s Tom Narayan remain optimistic about Ferrari’s ability to navigate this transition successfully, given its established reputation and history.
