Persistent Decline in Hog Prices on Monday

Lean hog futures experienced losses of up to $1.15 on Monday, with July contracts closing at $96.575, down $0.875. The USDA reported a national base hog price of $97.25, which marks an increase of $1.98 from the previous day. The CME Lean Hog Index also declined by 15 cents to settle at $92.75.

The USDA’s pork carcass cutout value fell by 27 cents to $97.12 per cwt, with decreases noted in the butt and loin primals. Additionally, federally inspected hog slaughter for the day was estimated at 484,000 head, an increase of 19,000 head from the previous Monday and 8,519 head higher than the same week last year.
