SpaceX Acquires Cursor for $60 Billion
Space Exploration Technologies (NASDAQ: SPCX), known as SpaceX, announced its $60 billion acquisition of Cursor, a company specializing in AI-powered coding tools, last week. The deal is expected to close in the third quarter of this year.
Cursor, which recently achieved $4 billion in annual recurring revenue, serves over 50,000 businesses, including two-thirds of the Fortune 500. The acquisition is strategically significant for SpaceX, as it not only expands its revenue streams but also provides valuable data generated through Cursor’s extensive user base, enhancing SpaceX’s capabilities in the AI sector.
As part of this acquisition, Cursor unveiled a new 1.5 trillion-parameter Composer coding model, set to launch shortly. This move aligns with SpaceX CEO Elon Musk’s goal of establishing a vertically integrated AI stack, allowing the company to leverage its infrastructure for greater value creation in the software development space.
