Warren Buffett Retires as CEO of Berkshire Hathaway
Warren Buffett retired as CEO of Berkshire Hathaway on December 31, 2025, after leading the company for over 50 years, during which he achieved an aggregate gain of nearly 6,100,000% in Berkshire’s Class A shares (BRKA).
Despite his success, Buffett made notable errors, particularly in selling significant stakes in Apple and Walt Disney too early. He divested approximately 687 million shares of Apple in the nine quarters before his retirement, which would have appreciated by an estimated $106.4 billion if retained. Similarly, Buffett’s initial $4 million investment in Disney in 1966, sold a year later for $6 million, would now be worth around $8.3 billion.
