Cattle Maintain Stability Despite Feedlot Challenges on Monday

**Live cattle futures fell by $1.85 to $225.225 on August 26, 2023, while feeder cattle futures dropped significantly, with some contracts falling to the $10.75 limit.** Cash trade remained unreported, continuing after a previous drop in prices to $230-231 nationwide. The CME Feeder Cattle Index decreased by $2.28 to $347.37 on July 24.

**The USDA announced plans to reopen the border to imports of Mexican cattle by August 24 at the Douglas, AZ port and two additional ports in New Mexico.** Cattle on Feed data indicated a 2.91% decline in June placements year-over-year, totaling 1.399 million head, while marketings fell 2.69% to 1.661 million head. Additionally, July 1 data reported a 2.21% increase in cattle on feed compared to 2025, totaling 11.37 million head.

**USDA slaughter data showed 95,000 head processed on Monday, down 7,000 from the prior week and 14,051 from the same week last year.** Wholesale boxed beef prices were mixed; Choice boxes rose by $1.65 to $362.89, while Select dropped by $1.55 to $345.16.
