Lean hog futures saw an increase of up to 75 cents on Tuesday, with the USDA reporting a national base hog price of $101.32. On July 24, the CME Lean Hog Index rose by 32 cents to $98.23. Additionally, USDA’s pork carcass cutout value was reported at $105.75, reflecting a rise of $1.30, although both the butt and rib primals experienced decreases.
On Monday, federally inspected hog slaughter was estimated at 442,000 head, surpassing the previous week’s total by 11,000 but falling short of last year’s figures by 1,427 head. Current prices for hog futures include August at $102.975, October at $88.150, and December at $79.275, with respective increases of $0.000, $0.350, and $0.725.
