Amazon’s Significant Investment in AI Infrastructure

Amazon has raised $25 billion in bonds in early July 2023, aimed at funding its AI infrastructure initiative. CEO Andy Jassy announced that the company plans to spend $200 billion on these efforts in 2026, a substantial increase from the $131 billion allocated in 2025. In comparison, Meta Platforms is expected to spend between $125 billion and $145 billion, while Alphabet aims for $195 billion to $205 billion in capital expenditures.

Despite investor concerns about the potential lack of return on this investment, Jassy emphasized that AI is a “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity” essential for future growth. Currently, Amazon’s stock is up less than 2% this year amidst worries that such extensive spending may not yield immediate benefits.
