Meta Platforms Exploring New AI Cloud Business
Meta Platforms (NASDAQ: META) is reportedly in early discussions to establish a cloud business by renting out excess AI computing capacity. The company is considering signing a two-year deal worth $10 billion with AI firm Anthropic, known for its advanced language models. This potential move could help Meta enter a rapidly expanding AI infrastructure market as spending on such technologies is projected to grow significantly over the coming years.
In 2022, Meta generated approximately $200 billion in sales, and although an additional $5 billion may not drastically impact its bottom line, securing Anthropic as a client could lead to further deals. Further investment in AI development by Meta, led by CEO Mark Zuckerberg, aims to capitalize on future monetization opportunities through various initiatives, including subscriptions and AI-driven customer services, amidst a backdrop of overall positive growth in its core advertising business.
