Live cattle futures saw gains between $1.42 to $3.47 at Thursday’s close, with Aug 26 closing at $231.225. Meanwhile, cash trade for cattle reached $232-233, but no sales occurred in the Fed Cattle Exchange auction for the 1,054 head offered. Feeder cattle futures also rebounded, with increases of $2.20 to $5.02, while the CME Feeder Cattle Index dropped by 22 cents to $347.69.
USDA reported beef export sales for 2026 at 15,109 MT for the week ending July 23, marking a 5-week high, while shipments decreased to 12,381 MT. Additionally, wholesale boxed beef prices fell, with Choice boxes down $2.93 to $360.50 and Select boxes down $1.08 to $341.33. Cattle slaughter numbers for Thursday reached 102,000 head, bringing the weekly total to 407,000 head, down 4,000 from the previous week and 36,144 below last year’s figures.
