Amazon Reports Strongest Growth in Five Years

Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) reported a 20% increase in revenue, reaching $167.7 billion, during its second quarter ending in June 2023. This marks the company’s biggest growth in over a decade, driven by a 37% surge in Amazon Web Services (AWS), which generated $42.2 billion. Operating income also saw a significant rise, climbing 43% to $27.5 billion.

Following the earnings report, Amazon’s stock surged 15.3% on the trading day. However, it’s noteworthy that the shift of Prime Day to June inflated revenue growth by approximately 500 basis points. The company forecasts a more modest revenue growth of 9%-12% for the upcoming third quarter.

Despite current momentum, analysts caution investors to consider the stock’s long-term potential, especially as AWS remains the key profit driver amidst ongoing capital expenditure plans totaling $220 billion for the year.
