**IREN Limited (NASDAQ: IREN)** has shifted its focus from Bitcoin mining to artificial intelligence (AI) computing, a transition underscored by its recent award of a $3.4 billion contract with Nvidia, set to commence in early 2024. Despite its ambitious plans to develop a global data center business for AI, the company faces significant liquidity challenges, burning through $2.2 billion in free cash flow annually.

In July, IREN’s shares plunged by 19.50% amid investor concerns over management’s substantial compensation packages, totaling restricted stock units valued at $832 million. The company’s market capitalization is currently around $14 billion, raising questions about its ability to fund the required capital expenditures for its data center growth while also signing a jersey sponsorship deal with the Golden State Warriors.

IREN is targeting the deployment of 5 gigawatts of computing power globally, which could yield tens of billions in revenue if successful. However, investor skepticism remains high regarding the company’s financial viability and management’s focus on executing its strategic vision.
