AMD’s Phenomenal Growth Over a Decade

Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ: AMD) has seen its stock price soar from $6.73 a share ten years ago to approximately $487 today, translating into a staggering gain of over 7,000%, or 53% compounded annually. A $10,000 investment in AMD a decade ago would now be worth about $724,000, compared to around $42,000 if invested in the S&P 500 with dividends reinvested.

AMD’s revenue has surged from $4.3 billion in 2016 to $41.3 billion over the past year, significantly benefiting from its rapidly growing data center business, which accounted for 58% of the company’s revenue in Q2 2026. The company’s diluted earnings per share reached $3.92, reflecting its shift from losses to profits. Shares currently trade at about 124 times earnings.

Despite its success, achieving another 72-fold increase in market value—currently near $800 billion—would be extraordinarily challenging, as it would require AMD to reach a market cap of approximately $58 trillion. Future growth will depend heavily on continued earnings growth amidst increasing demand for AI computing.
